ReplyDeleteMy favorite summer ritual would be waking up early to take walks outside when the dew drops are just on the grass. It's such a refreshing way to start the day.
Mine is gardening. I love to go out and tend the garden and then pick those wonderfully fresh veggies and cook them up.
ReplyDeleteI'm already reveling in my summer rituals! But then I'm in Texas, summer started last month.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite? Showering in my t-shirt, then laying out in the night air with a big tumbler of ice tea, and watching the lightning bugs frolic while I wait for dinner to finish cooking on the grill. Yes!
Ooh...or maybe it's tubing down the San Marcos river, falling asleep, waking up sunburned and starving just in time to clamber out of the river and eat a picnic lunch? Hard to decide...
Summer is the best!
Oooh, berry picking! I've been in the market for some new notebooks, these are darling.

as a PDX local, i'm so excited to be introduced to your site & store - yay!
ReplyDeleteas for the summer ritual i'm excited about, i'm finally going to be able to convince my husband to go out to dinner and eat outside! if the weather's at all threatening, he won't consider it...and, well, in portland, the weather's often threatening. i'm looking forward to a few days of surefire sun!
I don't know if this is considered a ritual ... relaxing more. My BF is a teacher with summers off. With both of us home, I'm able to take more of a backseat and relax. He loves to cook and takes over in that area.
ReplyDeleteThe volleyball in the pool ritual. We canadians get about 4 minutes of summer (actually 2.5 months) and our favorite thing is for the family to jump in the pool and play volleyball. I have them all tricked, they think I am so bad that they give me mercy points. They haven't noticed that my team usually wins...lol

Watching the fog roll in to cool things off after a nice long hike on Mount Tam. Fiona's blog is so inspiring–it's on my daily list.
ReplyDeleteVanilla Chai tea on my tongue, warm wind through my hair, biking down to the beach, making my sand lounge chair, the way the warm sand feels as it trickles over your toes. The sound of the ocean. That aqua teal color the ocean has on a clear day. The taste of cherry popsicle when it is really hot.

ReplyDeleteOoooh - these are lovely!
ReplyDeleteOne of my summer rituals is inner-tubing down the river. One of my friends is crazy - he brought a grill, and tied planks of wood to the inner tubes and grilled burgers while floating down the Colorado river! We do it yearly. This will be our 4th year, I can't wait!
blogged at constant cravings - http://www.constant-cravings.com/2009/05/just-little-bit-of-link-love.html.
ReplyDeletecould have sworn i posted about a summer ritual, but don't see it in the comments.
I adore taking showers outside down the shore. Can't wait until July when some friends and I will be renting a beach house for a week. Plan to spend days reading, napping and swimming and in the evenings we'll be grilling, drinking wine + beer and playing cards. Is it July, yet?
ReplyDelete--have to have one of these books!!! They'll make me write better poetry, I just know it!
ReplyDeleteI took my first creative writing class last semester and fell in love with it. I have been so busy with my Etsy store lately that I haven't had time to write and I am super bummed. So I decided to write the whole time while on my month long beach vacation this summer. I can't wait--really and I hope it becomes more than a summer ritual.
I do have a LOT of rituals that take place every summer...however; I plan on starting a new one with my daughter. I am a new mom and this will be my first summer with my daughter Addison! My new summer ritual will be play dates to the zoo, pool or park with my daughter!!! I have already gone to the park with her, but can't wait for our first trip to the zoo and to watch her as she experiences her first time to stick her piggies into the pool!

My very favorite part of summer that has become a ritual (many favorites don't qualify as rituals) has to be getting ice cream. I live two blocks from the local ice cream shop. I get ice cream with everyone. You can't visit me without eating ice cream! So good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for such an awesome oppurtunity!

There is nothing I love more than blank book, and these are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe summer ritual I most adore are marshmallow roasts with the kids at our outdoor fire pit. Think we'll do one tonight, actually!
I am looking forward to long walks along lake with my husband...and to add to our ritual, our baby boy will be coming along this summer!

We are in South Florida where everything melts as soon as you walk outside during summertime! I love that sweet, sticky feeling of a refreshing popsicle melting down the hands of little kids as they buy one from the ice cream truck and try to eat them before the sunshine takes them away!
ReplyDeletePicnics! Nothing better than heading to the lake for a relaxing evening (& some frizbee)
ReplyDeleteOur summer rituals are inherently connected to food. What can compare to the first berry of the season? Or turning those berries into delicious ice cream as the temperature rises, or jam to bring back the memories of summer once the cold returns? The tastes of sweet corn, just-picked tomatoes drizzled with balsamic vinegar and honey, the smell of the BBQ during a cookout, I'm salivating already. In our home, summer is about food and family.
ReplyDeleteThose notebooks would make a lovely place to record what we eat this year. :)
Being able to wear shorts and capris and be warm under the blue, blue sky. Loving how it stays light out until late in the evening, soaking up the warmth...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win such adorable notebooks!
