Hmmm, first very-own recording? A mistake. Bjork. I didn't mean to buy her, but there she was. Now I kinda like her quirky, bizarre sounds. So it was a mistake: rectified.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite but I do like Bjork a lot too. My fave would be a cross between Smashing Pumpkins (Mellon Collie) and Manu Chao.
ReplyDeleteMy first CD was The Cranberries. My first tape was this crazy radio show I recorded with my best friend and neighbor with music we recorded off the radio. Old Skool! My first record was Stayin' Alive by the BeeGees, bought for me by a high school friend because I did a dead-on impression...
ReplyDeleteThe first cd ever gifted to me was Ravel (classical French). The first CD I ever bought was Beetles' White Album, which at the time was like $25. The best part is that I still listen to it (10 years later). Well worth the dough.
ReplyDeleteSweet giveaway, by the way!
What was yours?
I think I went out and bought A-HA "Hunting High & Low", a Stacey-Q single, and The Hooters (I just dated myself so badly) all at the same time. I memorized every single song and danced around to the music from either my pink sony boombox or walkman. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember my first of each kind of recording!
ReplyDeleteRecord: Wham- "Wake Me Before You Go-Go" ( I was in Kindergarten)
Tape: Bon Jovi
Cd: Tori Amos
MP3: Beyonce ( for my workout soundtrack)

Melissapher ---
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'll confess...
My first tape was the Flashdance soundtrack. I so wanted to be Jennifer Beals back in those days.
My first CD was the Reality Bites soundtrack. I swear that I have more than soundtracks in my music collection nowadays!
Owen Says ---
I remember that particular StaceyQ single, it was awesome! I too sported a pink ghetto blaster. I used to place it in our driveway and dance to Madonna and Wham for our neighbors.
Thanks for all the comments/confessions, Keep 'em coming!
I don't remember the first tape I owned... I'm fairly certain that the first tape I wore out (to the point where the voices were indecipherably distorted) was the Aladdin soundtrack. And first CD... Either the Cardigans, "First Band on the Moon" or TLC, "CrazySexyCool". I think I got them for Christmas the same year.
ReplyDeleteOk so I'm older than all of you - ha!
ReplyDeleteMy first record was Elton Johns Greatest Hits Vol II
I bought it in the tiny little record store in our wee village in Scotland that doubled as the paint shop. I memorized all the words to "Somone Saved My Life Tonight" and sang it with great drama when my so called grade 8 boyfriend dropped me for a 10th grader. It still hurts . . . . :-(
first record: Rare Earth
ReplyDeletecassette:Cheap Trick live at Budakan
cd: Bruce Springsteen Born in the USA
inherited a bunch of records from my older brother. the genesis of a now prety solid collection.
ReplyDeletefirst cassette: Def Leppard, "Hysteria"
first CD: The Scorpions, "Best of Rockers n' Ballads"
and, yes. I had a mullet.
Fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteFirst Tape: Beastie Boys, License to Ill
First CD: Hm, I don't exactly remember what album was first, but I wanna say it was either Yaz, Upstairs at Eric's or Depeche Mode, People are People
Black finger nail polish was all the rage.
You had mullet???
ReplyDeleteThat's not fair - you're bound to win :-(
Record: The Go-Gos - Beauty and the Beat
ReplyDeleteTape: REM Green.
CD: Crooked Rain - Pavement
and I've blogged and tweeted about you with etsy-swag!
I grew up in the age of tapes. I think my first may have been Madonna, the one with "Vogue" on it.
ReplyDeleteaw boo i am in the UK :(
ReplyDeleteMy first tape (child of the 80's) was a hand-me-down tape from my dad of Genesis ABACAB. I have it on my iTunes now, and I can still listen to it all the way through remembering Dad telling all about how Peter Gabriel used to be cool and wore alien costumes in concert. Then he left and Dad's true idol Phil Collins took over. That's when Genesis got "good."
ReplyDeleteMy very first CD was...wait for it...Celine Dion! Oh yeah! There were moments of gold and there were flashes of light! It was a pre-Titanic Celine as well. I got it for Christmas along with my very first CD player. I use to listen to it every night on repeat as I fell asleep. It was probably the main reason I turned out to be a such a weird person. Now my music taste is slightly better but I will never forget those nights, 12 years old, listening to Celine.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I don't know. I think my grandma gave me like a 3 CD set of different classical music that I listened to all the time. I don't know if that was the first, but it was early!
ReplyDeleteWow! I don't know. I remember getting the free records that came with my burger king meal. They were small and floppy.
ReplyDeleteMy first album was by the Bay City Rollers, of course with "Saturday Night" on it. I remember watching them perform on a variety show and then begging my mom to take me to get it. I think she had to help me out with a dollar or two, but it was my first musical purchase. Thanks for this give-away, very sweet! :O)
ReplyDeleteMy very first cassette was from Mitsou, a Quebecer (Canadian) pop (very pop) singer ou surely don't know. But my first cd was from Moist, a rock band. Do you know them?
ReplyDeleteMy first CD was a single from Mariah Carey... sad, but true.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness. The first one I bought myself was the cassette single of Stay by Lisa Loeb. That brings back some memories!
ReplyDeleteIt was either Blues Traveler or Janet Jackson...one of the two.
ReplyDeleteAwesome giveaway! And I heart your banner. :)

lizardofoz@sbcglobal.net
Van Halen!!!!! And my neighbors thought I was bad!
ReplyDeleteHaha... it was the "Dangerous Minds" soundtrack. Either that or CrazySexyCool by TLC. Good memories :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I had records and tapes when I was VERY young, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was problem Kids Praise with Psalty the Songbook! LOL! I was young, give me a break! LOL! And worse...it was VINYL!
ReplyDeleteI tweeted! http://twitter.com/JustJingle/status/1231137296
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the title of it, but I'm pretty sure that the first cassette I ever owned was Sharon, Lois, and Bram (I didn't buy it).
ReplyDeleteMy first record was a 45 that played on my pink princess record player, it had songs like the Hokey Pokey on it. Don't remember for sure what my first album was as a teenager, but I do remember my Grammy buying me a Captain and Tennile album, I still have it somewhere, also Simon and Garfunkel. Yes to answer your question I am OLD.
ReplyDeleteHave fun Thanks
The first record I owned was "The Music Machine" - a kids album about the Fruits of the Spirit. I still love it and bought it for my kids on cd! My first tape was Amy Grant Unguarded and my first cd was a Michael W. Smith collection box set! Thanks for the giveaway. mybabyappleseed(at)yahoo(dot)ca

My first cd was Tiffany. I used to love that song "I Think We're Alone Now" and I even did an airband for that song lol. I was in grade 4 I think.
ReplyDeleteMy very first album was Hunting High and Low, by A-HA. It was a cassette, actually, as this was in 1985. I was 5 years old, and wanted it like I had never wanted anything. So my grandfather bought it for me. I listened to it on my fancy, bright red walkman all the time.
ReplyDeleteOh! Oh! This will surely date me but my very first record that I played over & over again was Richard Chamberlain Sings.
ReplyDeletebookjunkie50@yahoo.com

My first cassette was Forever Your Girl by Paula Abdul. My first CD was August & Everything After by Counting Crows. I was 12 and about to move to Omaha... knew nothing about the place, so I clung to that album as the only piece of Omaha-related info I had. They're still my favorite band ever.
ReplyDeleteIt was a Mariah Carey tape.

ReplyDeleteanne.bronkema@gmail.com
Oh gosh, it must have been something by New Kids on the Block...but it could've been Milli Vanilli too. haha.
ReplyDeleteBeach Boys Endless Summer - my sister and I split the price and shared the album set.
ReplyDeletemy first album was the yellow B-52's
ReplyDeleteLP. My parents were taken aback because ours wasn't yet a household over screeching and flopping on the ground. I still have it.
I think it was something by Donny Osmond.
ReplyDeletedonna444444@yahoo.com
the first album that i owned, that i can remember was by Neil Diamond. i was 5 years old.
ReplyDeleteMy 1st was AC/DC Back in Black.
ReplyDeleteI won it from a local radio station. I thought I could request any album I want but I only had 3 to choose. I chose AC/DC, not because I knew anything about them, but all the kids had AC/DC written on the side of their Vans.
So.... here I am, excited and imagining the cover to be rainbows and butterflies. Boy was I disappointed w/ the cover and scared by the first song I heard! (Hell's Bells) LOL
Sidenote: If I could've gotten any album in the whole world, I'd have chosen something from.... Air Supply!!! hahahaha
I realize now AC/DC's a little cooler than AirSupply and my tastes have changed "slightly".
My first album: Saturday Night Fever
ReplyDeleteI wore that album out, played it constantly.
My first tape was Samantha Fox, and my first CD was Creedence Clearwater Revival's Greatest Hits. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, I got this set of Golden Oldies tapes for christmas- all I remember is the song "Downtown" off of it! Really brings me back!
