shop: the social type

I've had my eye on The Social Type since their beautifully designed letterpress + foil cards hit shops a couple of years ago. In fact, we spotlighted their Stationery Show debut, in some of our pre-show picks in 2012! This week they launched their drop dead gorgeous online store and I can't stop admiring all the pretty goods.

I can't begin to tell you how delighted I am that Troolie has hit NE Portland. Proprietress, Kate Fulford, has clearly put an incredible amount of thought and research into choosing the perfect Portland location and she really located an amazing spot and neighborhood to open shop; her ultra savvy background in retail and merchandising really shine through! Run, don't walk to check out this TROOLIE (had to!) modern stationery boutique.

You may already be familiar with Betsy & Iya's fabulous line of jewelry, I'm certainly a fan - they've recently opened a lovely storefront in NW Portland. They seriously have the cutest goods and I'm pleased to share that SusyJack* is now being stocked there.

If you happen to be in Portland, be sure to make a visit at Betsy & Iya on Friday, November 25th as they are one of many great retailers (and event founders) participating in Little Boxes PDX. This one day event is an alternative to "big box" Black Friday shopping, participating retailers are offering discounts and you have the option to enter a raffle with super sweet prizes for every single participating shop that you visit. Shop indie!

Flora is a shop that I always recommend to friends and fellow bloggers when visiting Portland. They offer a large selection of local designer's goods (4 of the lines featured above are made in Oregon) and their jewelry selection is unrivaled. I'm now the proud owner of a pair of Demimonde earrings, after my visit on Monday.

Flora is also quite knowledgeable about tea and offer custom blends for their customers. Lucky for you non-locals, they have a website that features many of their lovely wares - shop online here.

oblation in the blogosphere

I'm delighted to see that Oblation Papers & Press has started a blog. Portlanders and paper connoisseurs will be well acquainted with their top-notch shops, custom designs and new retail line of cards. The business celebrated their 20th anniversary this year, long live Oblation!

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the owner of Urban Indigo at the LA Mart in July. I'm so glad that we crossed paths, as I wasn't yet familiar with her lovely shop and was able to make a stop there in September. I immediately took note that they stocked goods from some great Oakland artists, I love that they concentrate on talent from the East Bay! While visting I couldn't resist buying a 'Time Flies' necklace by Adjowah Brodie, it was quite clearly calling my name. The collection combines vintage watch faces with bird charms and are all unique, as the designer is using found objects. I've gotten a ton of compliments on mine!

I'm looking forward to my next trip to the bay area, in January. I can't wait to see Urban Indigo's latest find. You will definitely want to check out their web store and blog!

Tilde is a gorgeous shop located in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland. The owner hand-picks small design companies and independent artist's goods for the shop. I must say, her curatorial skills are rather amazing - I find it near to impossible to enter this shop without exiting with a new beloved purchase in hand. Most recently, these swoon-worthy earrings from Cursive Design in grey.

Truly a must stop shop for the perfect gift for a friend, or yourself!

Yolk, located in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, is not to be missed for those who fancy themselves a fan of Scandinavian Design. There's definitely something for everyone in this well-appointed shop. Luckily, for all of us not residing in Southern California, Yolk is in the midst of building up their online offerings. Hooray for e-commerce!

Being constantly surrounded by the best offerings in modern retail is an occupational hazard for me. Perch, located in San Francisco's Glen Park neighborhood, definitely stands out as one of the brightest. A truly excellent selection of cards, jewelry, housewares, baby and vintage. Not to be missed for locals and those planning a future visit!
